What happens during a massage? This varies from session to session as well as from therapist to therapist. If this is your first time with us you will fill out a short medical history form. The therapist will then review the form and ask some questions so that they may tailor the massage to best suit your needs. They will instruct you as to how you should get on the massage table. This is also a good time for you to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have. The therapist will then leave the room and allow you time to get ready and relax a bit. Your therapist will knock on the door and ensure you are ready and then the massage will begin. We strongly urge you to communicate with your therapist at all times about the progress of your massage. We can always adapt to best meet your needs but only if you ask us to. Your therapist will inform you once the massage is finished. They will then leave the room and allow you time to relax a little more, get dressed, and meet them in the waiting room.
What can I expect after my massage? Lactic acid is a byproduct of your body's use of oxygen and nutrients. During a massage, the lactic acid and other toxins are worked out of the muscles. Water helps flush your system of anything released during the massage.
How often should I get a massage? This is a question we get all the time. In short there is no hard and fast rule. Because there are many factors involved, it is a good idea to discuss this with your massage therapist. Learn from them about your body. See what he or she notices and what you notice. The most important thing is that you get on a regular schedule whatever that may be for you. Many times your massage therapist will find muscle tension you weren't even aware of. By reducing the amount of muscle tension in your body, you are also reducing your risk of injury, should you take a fall.
